where i have been for april and may:

posted on May 22nd

i know, i know, i don’t get time to blog much at the moment. here’s a photo catch-up to explain where i’ve been at!

11th april – and the walls are finally plastered:

20th april – and watery undercoats were finally underway:

yippee!

21st of april – still working my way around the room…

…but the mister joined me, and gave the ceiling it’s first coat.

(fools that we were, we thought a couple of good thick coats would do the job.)

…meanwhile, the rest of our living space looked like this – ack!

heaps of Stuff piled on every available surface!

24th of april – i am still working my way around the room…

but, disaster! strange brown spots have appeared all over the ceiling, like mould!
and they have bled though several coats of emulsion. so, now i have to go back over the spots on the ceiling with specialist “stain stop” paint.

28th of april – the mister applies another couple of coats of emulsion on the ceiling, to cover the stain-stop paint:

…but, disaster! it has covered it blotchily! there are discoloured white patches everywhere!

…i guess i know you’ll be doing next weekend, mister!

5th of may – oh! deja vu!

i don’t think that’s his happy face :(

but i reckon that’ll be it this time, though! surely!

surely it won’t need ANOTHER 2 coats?  that’s almost 30 litres of paint up there already!!

meanwhile – i have finished painting the radiators, the woodwork, and the 239857349857 coats of white it took to cover the GOLD highlights on the coving.
the base coats are also done, and i can finally start getting some colour (though i use the term loosely) on the walls!

(00nn 72/000 or “ice storm number 6″ in case you were wondering.)

oh but wait…what’s that i spy, in the corner of the picture…

…could it be the mister, ROLLERING THE STUPID EFFING BLOTCHY CEILING for the bazillionth time?

yeah, it’s had like 9 coats by this stage. ridiculous. let’s not talk about the ceiling any more.

15th of may – oooooh hello sexy wall covered in lovely coloured paint <3

16th of may – ooh, hello lovely turquoise carpet - may i introduce to you my lovely paint tray full of lovely expensive paint?

lovely. oh well.

19 of may – goodbye, turquoise carpet. i never liked you anyway.

22nd of may – oh hello gorgeous new pine floorboards!

i look forward to nailing you all over the damaged old pine floor at the weekend! :D

…that’s if we’re not giving the ceiling a quick ‘final coat’ of course.

WHO even looks at ceilings anyway right? Right? (please don’t ever look at our ceilings). Looks great, shame about that turquoise carpet though eh?

  2. Sal says:

i know, right! that’s what we did in the end – just made a pact never to look up!
and, yeah – poor old turquoise carpet, i really shed a tear over it while hurling chunks of it into the container at the dump.
(i did cut out a handy TURQUOISE RUG though, before i threw it away! :D)

  3. fiona says:

    “who even looks at ceilings?”

    the answer is ME.
due to my own ceiling woes, i always look up!

  4. Sal says:

i need a welcome sign on the front door i think. “YO. no stiletto heels, no looking up”

  5. Lizzie says:

If the ceiling bothers you loads, you could paper it… then paint over the paper!! (another and bigger “adventure” for The Mister!)
Or you could just never look up…
You know, there are a couple of “patches” on our bedroom ceiling, but I just never notice them now. Or very rarely. Somehow once the room is full of furniture and “living”, you no longer see the small(ish) blemishes.
Want to see the new floor… looks great already!

  6. Painted Lady says:

Im having the same ceiling issues,I feel your pain!! xx

  7. CBR says:

I NEVER look up, but I will make sure I do when I come and visit you. I must say that archie’s beard has done a superb job! And oh my, I love the grey walls, love love LOVE! “How do you do, LOOKIT YOUR SPLOGES”

  8. fiona says:

    NO WALL PAPER ON CEILINGS!
    no! no! no!

    *horrified*

(that’s what caused ours to fall down)

  9. CBR says:

you could always draw zombies on the splodges

I do love archie’s beard so .. and I think he needs to come visit (code for – when is he bringing YOU to visit?)
